What are the primary signs that the insertion tube needs to be replaced?
A: You should pull the endoscope from clinical service and replace the insertion tube if you notice any of the following:

Deep scratches, cuts, or bites on the outer polyurethane jacket (which compromise the fluid-tight seal).
-
“Browning” or yellowing and hardening of the outer tube due to chemical degradation from high-level disinfectants.

Buckling or wrinkling (kinking) along the shaft, which pinches internal components.

Loss of torque transmission, where twisting the control handle no longer results in an immediate, crisp rotation of the distal tip.

Repeated fluid invasion (leaking) that is traced back to microscopic porosity in the tube body.
